Bleaching, colouring and using hot tools are short cuts to damaged hair. In order to prevent or reduce these i'm sharing my own haircare routine to show how i protect & keep my hair healthy.
I myself have bleached hair, & i used to dye my hair quite a bit in the past. I first dyed my hair at 13 and have been dyeing my hair since.
What i'm about to share is what i personally found worked for me. I have noticed that even though i have repeatedly dyed & bleached my hair it's still very healthy. I don't have as much split ends & it grows quicker too. Tho i will say that this is not a miracle worker & you will still get split ends no matter what you do or what products you use. This is only a way to reduce damaged hair & to keep it healthy (:
Also, this post doesn't only apply to those with bleached/dyed/damaged hair. You can follow this just to maintain healthy hair & to prevent split ends ^^
-------
Shampoo:
Use a shampoo that is specifically designed to tend to damaged hair.
Conditioner:
I would recommend buying a shampoo and conditioner combo as they are created to work together. By combo i mean like, if you by a Aussie shampoo for damaged hair, buy the Aussie conditioner for damaged hair that goes with it. I know some of you already do this but i know some people that use different shampoo and conditioner. It's okay to do that but it's much better to buy the combo for maximum treatment. They are designed to work together.
Leave in your conditioner for several minutes before washing. Concentrate the conditioner on the lower half/ends of your hair.
Leave-in Conditioner:
After showering, use a leave in conditioner. Most of the time i use this, but sometimes i don't use conditioner in the shower & just apply this to my hair after i shower.
The one i usually use is the Aussie Miracle Hair Insurance. It helps "protect and detangle" my hair "from everyday wear & tear".
If your hair is long it grazes against everything it touches, which isn't good. This is why it is helpful to use a protective leave-in conditioner.
I have 2 others, mainly because they were on a deal, and i'm saving them for when i need to use them. One of them is the Miracle Recharge (Moisture) "for hair on the dry side" - Moisture Infuser. I plan on using this mainly in the summer or winter where my hair needs a bit more hydrating, but i will also use it randomly during the day to keep my hair from going dry.
The other one i have is the Miracle Recharge (Colour) "for colored hair funnily enough" - Protection & Vibrancy. I just touched up on my ombre so i will be using this more frequently now that i've bleached y hair again. I bought this so that the light ends of my hair would stay light longer so i wouldn't have to touch up on it as much.
You can use whatever you can find, i wanted to try the 'It's a 10' as i hear quite a lot about it, but you can't get in the UK as easily. You have to buy it online and it's a bit pricey. Aussie is really affordable and does a fabulous job (plus they smell fantastic!).
Hair mask:
Use a hair mask around once a week or once every 2 weeks. It is good to use a hair mask, which is basically a deep conditioner for your hair. The one i recently got is Argon oil. Now Argon oil as well as Moroccan oil are good supplements to even out rough ends, strengthen hair and other good jazz. You don't have to get these, the one i previously used was the L'Oreal ELVIVE Full Restore 5 (i still have the container because i thought it might come useful one day:P) & the other was the TRESemme Split Remedy Intense Recovery Masque (which i don't have anymore).
ALSO! A helpful tip, when leaving in your conditioner/mask, put your hair in a loose bun to stop the conditioner from dripping out of your hair & to make it easier to wash the rest of your body (:
Hair Serums:
An alternative to a leave in conditioner are hair serums. The one i use is argon oil. I only use it whenever i use the Argon Oil hair mask, but other than that i use my leave in conditioners (: It's the same as a leave-in conditioner but it does a little more depending on which hair serum you buy. I recommend argon or Moroccan oil.
Heat Defense:
Before using any hot tools (hair dryer, curler, straightener, hot rollers) and before going outside in the summer, on a hot day, always protect my hair first. This will reduce any damage-split ends etc etc~~
[The higher the heat defense, the better! It is always best to know the highest temperature of your hot tools before buying heat defense, because you don't want to go out and buy one that protects up to 200° & then finding out that your hot tools go up to 350°. Even if you don't use the highest temperature on your tools, get a heat defense that covers it anyways just in case. It's better safe than sorry!]
When going out in the sun, you don't have to spray your hair with heat protectant (tho you could if you want to, i've done it before in the past) but just use a leave in spray conditioner like the Aussie Miracle Insurance would work fine, i found that if you use a heat defense in the summer your hair will feel a bit sticky.
