This post is mainly for my oily-combo skin type chickas (:
One of the troubles of oily/combo skin are large pores. Large pores are mainly due to genetics, but they can appear or will get bigger temporarily when they are clogged, because it stretches the skin.
Having large pores leads to the overproduction of oil, because our pores host our hair follicles and sebaceous gland, and delivers sebum to surface of our skin for moisture/hydration and protection.

Here are a few tips:
- Wash your face. All of you probably already do this but i just wanted to add it in just in case someone didn't already. Poor hygiene, dirt, oil and dead skin cells can often build up and make your pores look bigger so get a face wash and keep clean (:
- Get pore strips/comedome extractor. (or you can make your own pore strips. Click here for a quick & easy tutorial). Pore strips are an easy way of getting rid of blackheads, and whatnot, lurking inside your pores. I wouldn't advise using this everyday but use it once a week or every 2 weeks when your pores need a cleaning. An alternative which i would highly recommend over pore strips is a comedome extractor. I know it sounds scary bit it just looks like this:
The reason i prefer this over pore strips is for numerous reasons:
1. pore strips doesn't get rid of everything but with a comedome extractor you can get rid of everything in a lot of areas without having to waste anything
2. cheaper because it is reusable. This cost me £1.83 & i spend £1 on 6 pore strips every time i run out.
3. It's not as damaging as pore strips can be
With pore strips:
1. It can lead to damaged skin if you use it regularly (that's why i only said to use it once a week or every 2 weeks) but you can watch a quick video about the effects here for more details
2. It is however quicker to use if you are pressed for time because you can do something whilst the strip is drying.
In any case, buy the comedome extractor but still keep a box of pore strips somewhere just in case (:
- Use a minimizing face mask/wash/toners/creams. These funnily enough, help minimize/tightens your pores :P. It's best to use this after you use the pore strips. This is because you've opened up and cleaned your pores now so they more willing to absorb. Be a bit wary of them tho because some work too intensely and actually close your pores. If that happens then where is all that sebum going to go? it will try and reach out of your skin & that's not too good! i again only recommend doing this once a week or even once every 2 weeks. so whenever you clean your pores, use a minimizing wash or mask as well.
- Warm water. As most of you may already know, it helps to wash your face with lukewarm water first before using any face wash, mask or pore strip, to open them up. Then washing afterwards with cool water to close them again once your done cleansing. This is not true. You cannot open and close pores. However, washing your face with warm water first does help. It loosens up the pores for easy extract of blackheads and whatnot.
- Salicylic acid. Blackheads are not dirt. In fact, blackheads are a result from oxidation. I don't really know much about it, but you can Google it if you want to know more. To help get rid of blackheads get a face wash with salicylic acid in it.
- Non-Comedogenic. It would also be helpful to get products that say non-comedogenic. This basically means that it doesn't contain any ingredients that can clog pores.
- Moisturize. It is important to help keep your skin hydrated so that your pores don't have to produce so much oils. Get an oil-free or oil-absorbing moisturizer.
