Skincare Tips & Tricks #1 - Acne Causes & Treatments

There are numerous causes of acne. When you’re a teenager your hormones are all over the place due to puberty & can be one of the main reasons for acne in teenagers. Within adults, acne isn’t so much as a problem but adults can still have acne. This is mostly in women when they are on their menstruation or are pregnant.

There are many myths about acne & what the treatment and real causes are but this is the information i’ve gathered and believed from my experiences:

Acne IS linked with your diet.
Eating healthy alone won’t get rid of your acne but there are some foods you eat that may trigger a breakout. This is different for everyone and i have found that in some cases milk is one of the causes. Or even dairy products in general.
To find out what foods may cause you to break out i want you to keep a log book or record of the food you eat. Make sure to take note of everything! After eating, if you break out within 24hours after eating it then it may be one of the foods that causes your breakouts. When i did this, i ate everything twice before making a judgement. This was to make sure that those food i ate wasn’t or was the causes of my breakouts.
If you find something that made you break out, try not to eat it for several months to see if your breakouts have reduced.
Note: Its is also helpful just to eat healthy in general for good health as well as for the skin ^^

Drink plenty of water!
This will be helpful to all skintypes. Drinking water helps by keeping your body hydrated. It is ideal to drink 8 cups of water a day, but try drinking at least 3-5 to begin with. When your body is fully hydrated, it shows in your skin as  your body takes in the water and keeps your skin hydrated. Your body will then produce the right amount of oils to protect the skin.
Oily: If your skin is oily it is because the skin isn’t producing enough oils so it produces more to compensate for it. This can lead to your skin over doing it a little and producing more than it really should. The causes of oily skin may be from genetics or overuse of skincare products. The overuse of skincare products may strip off the natural oils in your skin therefore your skin tries to prevent dryness by producing oils.
Dry: As you can guess its the opposite of oily skin where the skin isn’t producing enough oils. The causes of this is from cold weather and hot steamy showers. Some skincare products may also be the cause of dry skin. You can’t change the weather so there is nothing really to do about it, but if you’re like me & you enjoy hot showers…then i’m afraid your going to have to take it down a notch. I have eczema aswell as acne so to help my skin out a bit i tried turning down the temperature  bit by bit every time i shower so that i could learn to like warm water. This has not worked for me as i love hot showers but give it  ago yourself to see if you can learn to like warm showers.

Popping/squeezing spots, whiteheads & blackheads are a no no
It definitely isn’t a good idea to pop any pimples. Whatever you pop or squeeze you open up the skin. This leads to dirt and bacteria going into the popped area and creates more problems. Popping and squeezing will lead to more pimples, skin irritation and scarring. If you are going to an event or are meeting someone & don’t wanna show up with a huge pimple on your face then you can use these techniques to safely pop them/deal with them:
  1. If you really want to pop it then first you need to wash your face and hands. After cleaning instead of popping inwards, stretch the skin instead. After it pops then you can squeeze inwards to get rid of the excess sebum. After popping clean with warm water.
  2. Put an ice cube or toothpaste over the pimple to shrink it.
  3. Toothpaste is also useful to put over popped pimples to quicken the healing time.
[Note: Use a white colored toothpaste. NOT CLEAR GEL OR ONES WITH COLORED STRIPS. It is also best to use organic toothpaste if you have one. Also, stay away from WHITENING toothpaste it may lead to chemical burns.]

I hope this helped ^^
